"Dobby Is So Polite What A Delight!" By Kimberley Kleczka

Bark Of Love is excited to share the latest children's book by Kimberley Kleczka. We have long been fans of her work however having not one but two dogs in this fresh treat earns a blue ribbon from BOL!

Dobby Is So Polite What A Delight is a rhyming children’s book about how a caring brother brings home a special friend called Dobby for his sister. Dobby, is a blue heeler Australian cattle puppy, who is loving, energetic and was placed in a dog shelter. He is very sad as he is all alone and is stuck in a smelly cage. One day he is hoping that he will meet a new buddy and be able to run free and play Frisbee.

He is so excited when he meets his new friends. He is also introduced to Baloo, who is an older dog from The Netherlands that teaches Dobby manners and how to behave in and out of the house. This is a book about friendship, love and how to fit in with others. Dobby settles in very well with his wonderful family. But he has one habit that he finds hard to stop. Can you guess what it might be?

Puppies Behind Bars!

What? Why? How?

Did Fluffy chew one slipper too many?  Wee on the expensive bedspread? Chase the mail truck and catch it?

Thankfully it is none of the above. Puppies Behind Bars (PPB) is a program that trains prison inmates to raise service dogs for wounded war veterans and explosive detection canines for law enforcement. Puppies enter prison at the age of eight weeks and live with their inmate puppy-raisers for approximately two years. PBB programs bring the love and healing power of dogs to hundreds of individuals yearly bringing independence and security to those they serve as well as hope and pride to their raisers.

This video is from the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women in New Jersey where dogs are trained to detect explosives.

"Tales From The Front Lines" Supports Service Dogs For Military Veterans

Bark Of Love believes that military veterans are still a shamefully underserved group. We also believe that not enough people recognize the value and intelligence of canine companions to provide sorely needed help for our military personnel after they've served our country and returned home to deal with physical and emotion scars and damage.

The wonderful folks at WolfSinger Publications published Tails from the Front Lines, an anthology of stories about the bond between warriors and their canine friends.
The list of authors in this book are rather impressive.

  • Doranna Durgin
  • Rebecca McFarland Kyle
  • L.J. Bonham
  • Andrew Seddon
  • Dana Bell
  • C.R. Assap
  • Kevin J. Anderson
  • S.A. Wallin

Ball dogs back at Brazil Open tennis tournament

(CNN)A hit last year, ball dogs are back at a tennis tournament in Sao Paulo.
Four dogs from local shelters were showcased 12 months ago during the clay-court tournament in Brazil's largest city -- and all four were eventually adopted.
It was a barking good idea, then.
This time around, six canines ranging in age from four to 10 -- Cindy, Nanda, Pretinha, Mia, Arlete and Ovelha -- will be fetching balls during the warmups on the semifinal and final days, March 4-5.
"They are dogs that have had a difficult trajectory, yes, but what we want to point out is not the history suffered from the past, but to prove that no matter what they have gone through, they can be great companions today and in the future!" Madalena Spinazzola, from pet-food maker PremieR Pet -- organizing the initiative with the tournament -- told the Brazil Open's website.
